So what is the secret of the islanders and what can we learn from them?<\/font><\/strong><\/font><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Longevity of the Japanese has been the subject of many studies on life expectancy for years. The subject was mainly dealt with by <\/font><\/font><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Makoto Suzuki<\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> from Ryukyu University, who began researching the issue in the 1980s. In 2011, together with his colleagues (J. Willox and C. Willox), they published <\/font><\/font><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The Okinawa Program<\/font><\/font><\/em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> .<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Scientists analyzed the lifestyle, genes and diet of the oldest people living on the island. The results of the research turned out to be surprising &#8211; <\/font><\/font><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">it is not the genes themselves, but most of all the way <\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">of life, that is crucial for <\/font><\/strong><\/font><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">longevity<\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> . The secret of the inhabitants of Okinawa is <\/font><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">mainly based on plants, low-calorie diet and an active way of spending time.<\/font><\/strong><\/font><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Od\u017cywcza \u201ewywa\u017cona\u201d dieta<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Most Okinawans are vegetarians. The diet, although low in calories, contains a large amount of nutrients from vegetables, algae, seaweed and shitake mushrooms. Importantly, Okinawan centenarians know moderation and never overeat. Their motto is: <\/font><\/font><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Hara hachi bu<\/font><\/font><\/em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> , or <\/font><\/font><strong><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">eat until you feel almost full<\/font><\/font><\/em><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> . By not overeating, Okinawans do not overload their digestive system. In addition, they also have a different food culture to us. Thanks to this, the inhabitants of the Japanese island do not have problems <\/font><\/font><\/em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">with a shortage of nutrients<\/font><\/em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> &#8211; explains Katarzyna B\u0142a\u017cejewska-Stuhr, clinical nutritionist and psychodietician, author of the <\/font><\/font><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">blog <\/font><\/font><\/em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">kachblazejewska.pl<\/font><\/em><\/font><em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><\/em><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Interestingly, the island does not<\/font><\/font><\/strong><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><font style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> drink milk or eat cheese, and yet Okinawans do not lack calcium. After the meal, they put the gardens in order and are in constant motion.
