Meditation is healthy and makes us live longer

Modern research has proved that meditation can slow down the aging process. The biological age of regularly meditating people is from several to a dozen times lower than that of non-practising ones.

Scientists have confirmed that a regularly practiced meditation has a very noticeable influence on human health and body. Even short (about 15-20 minutes) daily sessions can lead to satisfying results.

Meditation lowers our blood pressure, heart rate and metabolic rate. It affects both peripheral and parasympathetic nervous system, having a relaxing effect on our body. It significantly increases the self-regenerating capability of the body and its immunity. Meditating people generally show a better mental fitness and lower vulnerability to stress. Meditation gives us a feeling of self-confidence and self-acceptance. It improves our mood, concentration, productivity and creative thinking. Regular meditation also increases our life energy (m’philosophy).

Meditation stimulates the positive changes of brain structure and reduces the density of cells in the right amygdala. The amygdala is a brain part responsible for inducing negative emotions such as sadness, anger or fear. Lower density of cells in this structure proves that meditation reduces the level of stress. People who have been doing meditation for many years, have more grey matter in the hippocampus. The hippocampus is a part of the limbic system that is responsible e.g. for emotional reactions or memory processes. Meditation also impacts the density of neurons in the cerebral cortex.

Meditation reduces stress lowering the level of cortisol in blood. According to research, too high level of cortisol has a bad influence on the circulatory system, because it increases blood pressure and heart rate and can also lead to another diseases such as hyperglycemia. There is a correlation between one’s good mood and the efficiency of his/her immune system. To conclude, meditation makes us live a healthier, longer and happier life.
